GCSE photography Coursework overview -
Produce an individual response to the following –
Weird and Wonderful
This project can focus on numerous aspects and should be an individual response.
Use one of the below ideas as a starting point –
· Dreams or nightmares
· Surrealism
· Magic
· Fairytales
· Superhero powers
An aspect of Surrealism is the distortion of reality and the production of images that explore visual contradictions and fantasy.
Examples can be seen in the photographic work of Chema Madoz . Consider a range of examples and produce your own work in response to this theme.

Weird and Wonderful - What should my project include?
· Ideas sheets/ mind maps/brainstorms
· Artist research with pictures, basic biography, your opinion of the artists work, identify techniques they have used. What makes the photograph effective?
· Experiments - Contact sheets showing annotation on what works and what doesn’t.
· Photoshop development/experiments – save at every stage of work to show clear progression.
· Final development stages – assess how to improve the best photographs you have taken – what will make them better?
· Final Piece – a series of photographs to show your interpretation of - Weird and Wonderful
· Evaluation – what went well, what would you do differently if you did the project again…how would you improve it?
Look at the website links given at the top of the page to give yourself a full understanding of what is required.
The best idea to begin is to produce a mind map of the theme
Write down every idea that pops into your head, no matter how ridiculous!
You will be taught some photoshop techniques to assist with producing unusual photographs, if there is a something you would like to do to your photograph but are not sure how to achieve the effect then please ask Ms Roban.
You will need to behave like independent artists and take charge over what you are doing in lessons.
You also need to show that you have linked your work visually & critically, ideas or techniques, to the work of other artists, photographers, craftspeople or designers.
Remember that it is your responsibility to provide the resources for your images (props etc).
ALL tasks need to be of a high quality. ALL tasks need to be annotated appropriately.
